Four Decades of Nigerian Legal Practice.
In active practice since 1985 — contested litigation and senior advocacy, not just filing.
What Forty Years Actually Means
Chukwuma Ekomaru & Co was founded in 1985. That is forty years of active practice in Nigerian law — through constitutional changes, judicial reforms, the expansion of the federal court system, the introduction of the CAMA 2020 overhaul, and the evolution of Nigeria's commercial and property law framework. The firm has not merely observed these changes. It has practised through all of them.
The firm operates from two offices — Abuja and Owerri — covering the full spectrum of Nigerian legal practice: litigation from Magistrate Court to the Supreme Court, property transactions, corporate advisory, arbitration, election petitions, fundamental rights enforcement, and tax disputes. Fourteen practice areas, each led from the same standard: preparation, precision, and senior-level advocacy.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria designation held by the firm's principal is not a title conferred by age or seniority alone. It is awarded by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee on the basis of demonstrated competence — the quality of advocacy, the complexity of matters handled, and the standard of written submissions. Fewer than one percent of Nigerian lawyers hold it. It is the difference between representation that is merely competent and representation that operates at the highest professional level.
When a Senior Advocate of Nigeria appears in your matter, opposing counsel prepares differently. Courts engage differently. Settlement negotiations proceed on different terms. The SAN designation is visible on every brief, every court appearance, and every communication — and it changes the dynamic of your matter before a word is spoken.
